The Making of Out of Office STORY: Artist Georgia Elrod

When we decided to bring the outside inside to STORY, our first call was to visual artist, Georgia Elrod.

Founding G.L. Decorative Finishes in 2005, Georgia realized she had discovered a way to support her artistic practice as well as exercise her love of paint in a parallel industry. Working with interior designers, commercial spaces, and historic sites, G.L. Decorative Finishes provides a range of decorative treatments in NYC and abroad. A native New Yorker and an exhibiting painter, Georgia brings a unique sensibility to her business.

After Georgia put the finishing touches on our pool and wall of clouds, she sat down to share some of her summer secrets:

What’s your story in six words or less?

Native New Yorker, painter/thinker/doer

Okay more importantly, what do you love most about summer (in NYC)?

Green parks, walking at night, seeing fireworks from rooftops

What’s at the top of your summer bucket list?

When it’s too hot to be outside you can find me….

in my studio

When’s the last time you played hooky and what did you get up to?

It’s been awhile, but always love going to Riis beach

What’s your go-to frozen situation (dessert, cocktail, popsicle)?

An Italian chocolate ice from a good pizza place

Give us your best skip working excuse…

Up all night with a teething baby

Guilty pleasure summer song:
