Someone who defines follow your art: Samantha Hahn. As an artist and fashion illustrator, Samantha’s dreamy watercolors have been everywhere from magazine covers to inside STORY! We asked her our favorite ten questions to get her take on everything from app-enabled addictions to trophy inscriptions.
What’s one thing the Internet doesn’t know about you?
I’m a mom of two kids. It’s not that it’s a secret but I don’t share loads of photos and information on my blog and instagram. I just find that keeping both worlds separate works best and have come to share less and less personal stuff and more professional stuff.
What would the title of your autobiography be?
Drawn to Color
What album or song would you consider your personal soundtrack to NYC?
It’s ever changing. I get completely fixated on a certain album or artist and then I play their tracks until I can’t stand them anymore. I’m still on a Beck kick. His latest album suits my mood and this incredible city so well.
What items can be found on you at all times?
My iPhone and sunglasses.
To what are you addicted?
Currently Instagram. I’m kind of a visual junky and Instagram is a pool of aesthetic fix.
What did you Google last?
“Best beaches accessible to Brooklyn”
What’s the last thing you took a photo of?
I took a selfie of my baby daughter sleeping on my chest at the park on Sunday.
If you were going to win an award tomorrow for anything, what would it be and what would you like written on the trophy?
I don’t care much about accolade I just like doing what I do and collaborating on interesting projects. Getting hired to do art is the best accolade there is. I guess if there’s anyone I want to impress it’s my peers in art and design. So if there was a trophy I could get from a group of artists and designers whose work I love the most, I’d like it to say “we love you too”.
Favorite midnight/all-day snack?
Popcorn. For some reason my sweet tooth has given way to a salty tooth. I just want popcorn with sea salt all day and night.
If you had 24-hours in NYC, where’s the first place you would go?
I was born and raised here so I have lots of haunts. I love the Brooklyn Botanic Garden because it’s a great getaway and it’s right in my backyard. If I’m in an urban mood, we’ll hop the train to Manhattan and check out a show at MoMa, the Met or Whitney.
