In Conversation: Wafels & Dinges

Beyond the batter, there is something that keeps us coming back to Wafels & Dinges (or rather, having them come back to us on 10th Avenue!).

In an effort to discover why we just can’t get enough of the ever-popular truck at STORY, we asked them a few questions…

Where did the idea for the truck come from?

It was the summer of 2007, when the King of Belgians, Albert II, got word of soggy “Belgian Waffles” in that far away Land of America. They were found in obscure diners, made of pancake batter. “These so called “Belgian” waffles are a disgrace!” So his majesty commissioned the Special Forces from the Ministry of Culinary Affairs, Department of Wafels. He knighted Thomas deGeest to “Special Envoy for Wafels”, and later crowned Rossanna Figuera as “Ambassador of Good Things”. Wafels and Dinges was born. It all started with a ‘68 Chevy Truck roaming the streets of NYC. “Wafels and Dinges’ mission shall be to give America’s “Belgian Waffles” a serious upgrade”, Albert II declared. And the rest is history…

What is exactly a ‘dinges’? [ding-uhs] noun, plural

Used in place of the noun or the proper noun, when you can’t remember the name of:

  1. A thing
  2. A person
  3. Your wafel toppings
  4. Like, uh, you know: stuff!

Why do you think so many are obsessed with your wafels (we know we are!)?

While we are known as a quirky and fun place to visit, we are uncompromising about the quality of our products and customer experience. Everyone gets the chance to be a kid and truly build the wafel of their dreams. It’s hard to not be happy when eating a fresh, warm Belgian wafel dripping with mountains of yummy toppings! Fun wafeleurs, fun wafels, and fun wafel fans, what’s not to love?!

What is the most delicious unlikely waffle pairing?

The Throwdown! It’s a Liege wafel covered with our world renowned Spekuloos Spread and Whipped Cream. Spekuloos is our signature spread and a well kept Belgian secret; some people call it a miracle, made with unicorn tears and joyous laughter. And a wafel is never fully dressed without two big rosettes of whipped cream! If you’re feeling especially naughty, top it off with a scoop of our homemade vanilla ice cream too!
