In Conversation: Sophia Amoruso

At Home for the Holidays, STORY’s annual living gift guide, we’ve created a one-stop-shop with over 2,000 items for everyone on your list. This year, we partnered with Microsoft Surface to help you get it all done in record speed so there’s more time to “do you!”

To help you stay powered up and looking good, we enlisted #GIRLBOSS founder Sophia Amoruso to curate a limited-edition, exclusive gift collection inspired by the most productive device, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4.  Versatile and uncompromising items – from a MiPow ultra-sleek power tube, to a silk sleep mask by #PitchNight alum Perpetual Shade – are all bundled in a Finell leather tote along with the Surface Pro 4. They’re the perfect must-haves that will make your to-dos feel like ta-das. (And pssst, if you want to buy the collection – a $2630 value – for $1500, it’s currently available in-store and at Neiman Marcus.)

Amoruso is the founder of Nasty Gal clothing, and the author of two books, #GIRLBOSS and Nasty Galaxy. We caught up with the one-woman empire to chat about making a lasting impression, her personal productivity hack, and her favorite haunts on both coasts.

Your latest book, Nasty Galaxy, is about “how to leave yours on everything you touch.” In one sentence – how do you make a lasting (and positive) impression?
Have something to say! Wallflowers leave only negative impressions – believe me, I’ve been one. When you’re curious, friendly, and generous with your time, others will remember you.

What’s your favorite productivity hack?
I use Asana to organize myself and my team, and it’s a lifesaver. Also 1Password for organizing passwords!

What’s your favorite style hack?
The jumpsuit! So comfortable, one choice, and done. I am wearing a big denim mechanics suit right now.

What’s one thing that we can’t find out by googling you?
I pick my nose.

Favorite spots in NYC and LA to eat?
NYC: The Polo Bar, Upland, and EN Brasserie. LA: The Sunset Tower, Sugarfish, and Paley.

To shop?
NYC: Dover Street Market, Barney’s, and Harper’s Books in East Hampton. LA: Golyester Vintage, Squaresville, and Nasty Gal!

Anything we should know, just because?
I didn’t shower today. Does that make me French?
