IN CONVERSATION: Wooln Knitwear Founders Faustine & Margaux

SHARE WITH US YOUR PITCH NIGHT EXPERIENCE.

I think Pitch Night is the best thing in the fashion industry! No line sheets, no look books, no email, it is just the founder, the products, and the story that links them! I’ll confess that I was stressed about it, but it was a lot of fun to wait for my turn with all the other designers, and hear their stories: everyone had something special to share, all the brands were at different stages, and everyone was genuinely happy to be part of Pitch Night.

ANY STAND OUT MOMENTS FROM PITCH NIGHT?
When everyone in the jury started putting the hats on, and taking selfies.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START WOOLN?
When Margaux and I met (we’re both French transplants) we both felt that seniors could play a bigger role in the community and be more valued than they were in New York City, and as Europeans, honoring elders is a big part of our way of living. Also, being surrounded by such an amazing community of senior knitters is a way for us to create a new family away from home here in the US.

ANY HIDDEN TALENTS?
Margaux is a knitting wizard and I am visual artist, so we don’t have to pay for our grandmother portraits and illustrations 🙂

WHAT’S THE MOST POWERFUL PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED?
To be patient! Building a brand takes time and it’s ok to make mistakes along the way. And to have as much fun as possible, and this shows in the brand we’ve built!

WHAT’S A FUN FACT WE CAN’T LEARN ABOUT YOU FROM GOOGLE?

Our knitters are more fun to be around than our friends

Sometimes we feel older minded than our knitters: some of them are really badass!!

Our knitters don’t only knit, they actually run the company! They are the ones who talk to the Press, they write our email blasts, and run our instagram a few weeks a year, they design the new collections, and they are also our sales force, selling our products in their neighborhood stores

DESCRIBE WOOLN IN 6 WORDS.

Look great, do good, keep warm
