[READ] This Designer Created a Bubble that Would Last Forever

Making the ephemeral beauty of a bubble last forever.

Inspiration can be fleeting. But designer Sebastian Scherer of Germany comes close to capturing it with Iris, a pendant light the appears like a permanent iridescent soap bubble. Named for Iris, the Greek word for rainbow, the crystal lamp is the result of both ambitious craftsmanship and technological innovation.

With the mentorship of designer Robin Hunicke and support of the Lexus Design Award, Sebastian developed a special iridescent coating that could been be fired to create a piece that shimmered from every angle. A thin OLED Module was also implemented to serve as the light source and mount for the fixture, providing a solution that wouldn’t compromise the lightness of the design.
