Julie Mollo Pitch Night

SHARE WITH US YOUR PITCH NIGHT EXPERIENCE.

Pitch night was so fun! It was funny because I showed up with literally a tote bag full of clutches, some line sheets I printed out on my print, business cards and a power point presentation on my laptop. No display rack, no nothing. When I got into line, people had all of these suitcases full of displays and huge things and I was like OH CRAP, I immediately felt unprepared, even though I knew deep down I wasn’t. I started to text my mom in a panic and she told me I’d be fine. I’ve got a lot of sales experience and I’m pretty (very) good at talking about myself, so the plan was to let me and my product speak for itself. Needless to say, it worked. Rachel & Jenny booked me for a trunk show at STORY for the following week and placed an order for the following STORY, Home For The Holidays. Tory Johnson and I got on the phone the next morning to see how a spot on Good Morning America could work for my product, and Olivia Kim put my clutches in 3 Nordstrom locations for the 2017 Holiday Season.

ANY STAND OUT MOMENTS FROM PITCH NIGHT?

I was one of the last people to go that night, despite getting in line super early. I pulled #38 and there were about 42 people altogether. the best part was after all of the on-camera interviews wrapped up and everyone was getting themselves together to leave Tory Johnson grabbed me and said “I am calling you tomorrow, I am not kidding, you were my favorite product of the night”. I had a very excited subway ride home, I barely slept, and started sending emails at 9am the next day.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR COMPANY?

My customers! I did not mean to start my company when I did. I was 20 and still in college. I was dressing Katy Perry and when she did a blog post about me, she sent thousands of girls to a portfolio site that I had up and girls started emailing me telling me how much they wanted my clothing….so I started a custom clothing business out of my dorm room!

ANY HIDDEN TALENTS?

I am a very good cook. Cooking is my de-stresser. When the orders are out of control and I’m freaking out about business, I walk out of my office and into my kitchen. my kitchen might be tiny, but it is my happy place. I do not like to bake, though. baking = recipes = rules and there are no rules in my kitchen.

WHAT’S THE MOST POWERFUL PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED?

You have nothing to lose [by making that move, sending that email, pitching your product..]

WHAT’S A FUN FACT WE CAN’T LEARN ABOUT YOU FROM GOOGLE?

Despite being known for designing super fruity outfits (literally) for Katy Perry’s grand entrance into the entertainment world in 2008, I was pretty allergic to fruit during those days and the decade preceding… somehow the allergy went away a couple years ago. apparently allergies can come and go— so strange.

DESCRIBE YOUR COMPANY IN SIX WORDS.

Fun, Flirty, Feminine, Retro, Rock & Roll!
