Cities are filled with hidden gems – the blink and you might miss it things that become a part of what you love most about your home. Street artist Paige Smith rewards those who look closer through “Urban Geode,” a global project that creates moments of rarified, handmade beauty in unexpected places. Inspired by her perspective, Paige collaborated with us and NY painter Georgia Elrod to inset her resin and paper gemstones in our STORY wall. Ahead Paige shares some of the hidden gems in her ‘hood, from coffee shops to cocktail spots.

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT IS URBAN GEODE KNOWN FOR? Urban Geode is known as an international street art project which places architectural man-made gems into the cracks and crevices of urban landscapes.

WHERE’S THE LAST PLACE IN L.A. YOU HAD A GREAT MEAL? Colombo’s in Highland Park. It was mostly the old school atmosphere and the live jazz
WHERE DO YOU GO TO FIND INSPIRATION? Arts District. I find inspiration in any and all pieces of street art I find every day.
WHAT SMALL BUSINESS IN YOUR CITY DO YOU LOVE? Daily Dose Cafe. They make delicious food, have great practices, and are in the most magical alley in LA, it feels very European. Sarkis, the owner is often on hand and having coffee with his guests.
WHERE’s YOUR FAVORITE PLACE FOR A COCKTAIL? I’m a classics kind of girl, I like to get a dry gin martini at the moment. And I’d go to Normandie Club.
WHERE’s THE FIRST PLACE YOU’D SEND SOMEONE IN YOUR CITY? Griffith Park, it’s beautiful, there is an observatory for the evenings, and you get to see a little iconic Hollywood with a view of the sign. Yes, I love parks.
WHAT’S ONE THING THE INTERNET DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT YOU? I do another kind of street art without my name on it. It’s still a secret for now…
