BK Notebook Maker Does Right, Supports Creative Classrooms
Good is…supporting the next generation of innovators. For BK notebook maker, Public-Supply that means providing creatives with the tools to dream up their next big idea. So as part of its mission, the brand channels 25-percent of profits to creative projects in public school classrooms through a partnership with DonorsChoose.org. Its contributions have funded the purchase of everything from Makerbot filament, drumsticks to a digital camera. Here, they share the story behind their goods and why thinking outside the lines matters.
WHATS THE GOOD STORY OF YOUR BUSINESS?
Public – Supply produces notebooks and other writing essentials, and channels 25% percent of profits to public school classrooms doing creative work.
FILL IN THE BLANK: GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN…
Students have the resources to be creative at school.
HOW DO YOU CREATE IMPACT?
We make our donations through DonorsChoose.org, which provides total transparency in terms of the classroom supplies requested, what they cost, and what lesson they’ll be put towards. We pass that transparency on to our customers: each Public – Supply notebook is hand stamped with a code that corresponds to a specific classroom contribution. Customers can check our site and see which project their purchase helped support. As of April 10, we have funded 58 classroom projects, impacting almost 9,600 students.
WHATS ONE GOOD THING YOUVE FOUND LATELY?
We were really impressed with the story about how 14 year old Suvir Michandani from Pittsburgh analyzed ink use for a school science fair project and concluded that the US Government could save $234MM by switching to Garamond from New Times Roman.
